David and Karen
Old hippies don't Die.
They bake.
In the 1970's and 80's, David and Karen spent a combined 17 years with the Peace Corps, working on research and rural development projects in Niger and Chad, West Africa.
They first visited the Mancos Valley for Peace Corps training, and developed several long-lasting friendships with the locals.
Their daughters, though born in the United States, lived in Niamey, Niger with them. The family returned to Mancos just before the birth of their youngest child, Jeffrey, in 1989.
David and Karen operated a toy store in Durango from 1989 - 1998. They both went back to school (teaching and nursing degrees respectively,) and worked in several different specialty areas; David as the program manager for an outdoor summer camp, and Karen as the Mancos school nurse.
They have operated the ABC with their children and friends since they purchased the business in 2007.

All in the Family:
Some think we're brave.
Some think we're crazy.
We think we're awesome.
Going to work every day with your family is no joke - we understand that there are not many families who could come together to operate a business, much less a successful restaurant.
It's taken us a few years, and our fair share of bumps along the way, but we've come to a place where we truly enjoy each other's company, both in the bakery and outside of it.
We believe that our food tastes better because it truly is made with love, from our table to yours.

We have happily welcomed our third generation, inducting the grandkids with flour and chocolate chips.
